Jacobs takes EP bodybuilders title
The Makana Bodybuilding team travelled to Port Elizabeth on Sunday 17 June in order to participate in the Eastern Province Developmental competition. The Makana Bodybuilders were represented in the U17, U19 and Welterweight divisions throughout the day.
SuperSport saga continues
The independent investigation into the SuperSport walkout incident came to a close last week, stating that there was no racism in the incident. These findings are, however, controversial due to the fact that Ashwin Willemse refused to take part in the investigation. Phumzile Adam, a non-racial sport activist and former player who is now a rugby coach and administrator as part of the South-Eastern Rugby Union (Sedru), gives his views on the incident and subsequent findings.
Hero of the week: Zinathi Mbenyana
After a stellar performance for Kingswood’s Girls’ first hockey team at the annual K-Day derby, Zinathi Mbenyana was identified as the standout player in the first team hockey encounter between Kingswood and DSG. Despite neither team managing to outscore the other, Mbenyana was the difference between the sides on the day.

One day left to catch GBS Mountain Drive 21km early bird!
There’s a day left to catch the discounted early bird registration for the GBS Mutual Bank Mountain Drive Half Marathon on 25 August. Organised by Rotary in partnership with Albany Saints & Sinners Multisport Club, the event’s first 200 entrants get a T-shirt. The first 400 get a goodie bag. Early birds who enter today or tomorrow also receive a Mugg & Bean voucher redeemable anywhere in South Africa.
Grahamstown meets Syracuse in working exchange
On Wednesday 30 May, students from Syracuse University in New York State, America, descended upon Grahamstown’s Graham Hotel to host a meet and greet together with the Inkululeko programme. The event was the official start of the Syracuse students’ three-week trip in Grahamstown.
SA shock England with comeback victory
The cool winter air in Johannesburg welcomed visitors from across South Africa and England on Saturday 9 June, as the Springboks hosted the Roses at Emirates Airline Park. Rassie Erasmus, was in search of his first win as the new Springbok head coach, in this his first home test match in charge of the Springboks.
All set for Makana Aerobics Marathon
The New Indoor Sports Centre will play host to the third annual Makana Aerobics Marathon on Saturday 16 June. The event, which is hosted by the Makana Aerobics and Fitness Club, will welcome people from all walks of life into the Joza Township from 8am until 5pm.
