Virus forces early sunset on rugby season

As women’s sport is becoming more and more of a priority for media and sporting unions alike, creating visibility for successful women’s teams should be equally as important. This project looks into the importance of rugby to the lives of young women that play the sport, defying gender stereotypes and battling tough opposition on the way to make their mark on the sport.

Life could have turned out completely differently for Irish scrum half Kathryn Dane, if the coaches of the U8 Enniskillen opted not to let her join in with the boys team. On a whim, Dane went to join the boys after her football practice, and, with the help of her dad, convinced the coaches to let her join in with the lads that were “twice the size of me”.

Rugby rumours are a dime a dozen these days, with the most frequent rumours surrounding the expansion of competitions like the 6 Nations in Europe and the Rugby Championship in the Southern Hemisphere. However, these rumours do not touch on how these expansions could affect the women’s game.

DCU grind out hard-fought victory over Tullow RFC

Dublin City University Ladies Rugby Club continued their strong start to 2020 with a hard-fought 36-26 victory over Tullow RFC at DCU St Clare's. The last time these two teams met, DCU came from 12-0 down to win 26-27 in the final minute of the match. On Sunday 26 January 2020, DCU hosted the Tullow side, scoring six tries and earning the full points from the clash.
